Hundreds of area residents took steps to improve their heart health on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 8:30 AM in Bay City when they participated in the American Heart Association's Start! Heart Walk.

A beautiful morning it was in Downtown's Wenonah Park which was the location for the event and the Start and Finish Line for a 2.6 mile walk through Downtown Bay City.

The Annual American Heart Association Start! Heart Walk is a celebration of health and wellness in Corporate America as well as the dollars raised throughout the year to help fight against cardiovascular disease.

The Heart walk is an annual event, which raises funds to fight heart disease and stroke, America's No. 1 and No. 3 killers.

Jennifer Hancock, Corporate Events Director of The American Heart Association, said, "It was a great day! We had survivors telling their stories as well as many family members there walking in tribute to someone they had lost to heart disease."

Hancock continued, "It's all about the people and if we touched one person that day with our efforts, then I'm happy."

Each day, nearly 2,400 Americans die from a cardiovascular disease. That's an average of one death every 37 seconds. A leading risk factor for heat attack and stroke is lack of physical activity.

The Start! Heart Walk is the Heart Association's premiere fundraiser where community members can fight back against heart disease, stroke and even childhood obesity by raising funds that will support research, educations and advocacy.

According to Stacy Sawyer, Director of Communications, donations can still be made at the below link.
