Murray Sutherland Is New Owner of New Body Health & Fitness Center

Accommodating Women's Weight Loss, Trimming & Toning Needs

On March 1, 2008, Former I.B.F. World Boxing Champion, Murray Sutherland became the proud owner of New Body Health and Fitness, located at the Corner of Henry & Vermont Streets, on the West side of Bay City.

Sutherland had managed New Body since October 2003 and recently decided to buy the business from former owner, Bay City businessman Art Dore.

Sutherland was born in Edinburgh and was a Scottish boxer in the super middleweight division. Sutherland turned professional in 1977. In 1984 he captured the IBF Super Middleweight Title with a decision win over Ernie Singletary. Sutherland retired in 1986. Career Record: 49-13-1 (39 KO) Since then he has coached and trained fighters and promoted Toughman.

Because of that history, Sutherland has been involved with weight loss and weight gain for over 30 years and knows what it takes to shed those unwanted pounds, having to either lose weight or gain weight quick to meet his weight requirements in the world of boxing.

One of the things Sutherland would like to focus on is catering more to women's trimming and toning. "Many women come in looking to shed a few pounds, and I can guide them through personal training and diet and get effective results," Sutherland said.

Sutherland has a total of approximately 9,000 square feet at New Body -- 4,000 sq. ft. of weights and cardio, and 5,000 sq. ft. of exclusive Aerobic, Martial Arts and Boxing work-out rooms.

According to Sutherland, he can offer clients a great deal on membership that can be custom-designed to meet both schedule and budget requirements.

(Above Right) Jane Thomas, lives in San Francisco but visits her mother frequently (who lives in Bay City.) Thomas, said, "I really like this gym. Whenever I am in town, I come here because they have lots of cardio machines to choose from and I never have to wait to get on one of them. And I can stay on it as long as I want."
